Artist Statement

My work stems from my early years spent in a small South African  Town. A place of vast hypnotic space, and endless skies, punctuated by  occasional thorn trees and signs of habitation. When I immigrated to the  UK I had to reinvent myself. It took some years for me to change my  visual influences. I expenses from mainly ancient art, to art worldwide. encouraging viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with the emotional and physical states expressed in each line and layer.

Artistic Practice

Carmen Turyn is a London-based artist whose practice spans drawing, painting, and mixed media. Her work is rooted in gesture and mark-making, exploring the tension between abstraction and figuration. Over the years, she has developed a highly personal visual language that reflects movement, emotional depth, and the complexity of the human form.

Artistic Practice

Turyn works primarily with ink on paper, oil and acrylic on canvas, and mixed media. Her process values immediacy and honesty: a trembling line, an unfinished contour, or a layered texture becomes a record of time and presence. She often draws inspiration from ancient art, natural rhythms, and human psychology — translating them into bold, expressive marks
